It seems more often than not when you find yourself thinking “There should be an app for that,” there already is. There’s a lot of planning involved around following your favorite band on tour. If you’re a seasoned concert goer, you know the struggle already. Finding a place to stay, deciding what gear you’ll need to bring, figuring out what else the area has to offer, are all things fans deal with all the time. You may find yourself asking why there isn’t an app that does it all, when in fact, such an app does indeed exist. I’m talking about the iTour apps. They are band specific apps that take the tour dates of your favorite band and provide you with all the info you need to follow them on tour.<\/p>

The bands that currently have their own app include Phish, Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, The String Cheese Incident, Umphrey’s Mcgee, and Widespread Panic. The first thing that you see when you open the app is the complete tour list with each date and location. If you select a specific show you’ll be provided with further information including door time, show time, a map and picture of the venue, seating charts, updated weather at the venue, a countdown to the show, and access to a show setlist once the show is over. The app also provides you with a button for direct access to CashorTrade listings, a listing of other shows and late night options via JamBase, and YouTube links to videos from the show.\"\"<\/em><\/p>

iTour app on iPhone vs Android<\/em><\/p>

Marc Pechaitis is the mastermind behind this fantastic resource. It all started in 2010 when he was visiting his parents in Ohio. Marc, a software consultant, who at this time was in between projects, was looking for something new. He first had the idea when Phish announced their summer tour and he was having trouble looking up the newly announced show dates on his phone.<\/p>

“I started researching what is involved in making apps (specifically iPhone apps because I’m an iPhone user), got myself a Mac and figured out what I needed to do to get a simple app running. From there it took a couple weeks before I had a rough prototype ready, and brought it out into the field with me at the shows I attended that summer.”<\/em><\/p>

With a little bit of refinement the app would be launched just in time for Phish’s 2010 fall tour. Marc, himself, does all the designing, coding, testing, and marketing for each of them. He even had to learn to create all the artwork on his own.<\/p>

“I have had to wear many hats during this endeavor, and what I like most about the process is having an idea for something new, and the challenge of figuring out how to make it happen.”<\/em><\/p>

With no surprise, the Phish iTour app has shown to have the most downloads, but recently Dave Matthews Band has been picking up traction and the Widespread app has been pretty popular as well. Marc is excited to expand upon the apps, making them more integrated with Facebook. One idea he has is for the app to recognize that you are at a show and use Facebook to notify you if your friends are also attending the show. He also plans on bringing back the integration with Maps and Waze because he found that to be the most useful app feature. Someday he hopes to have a version of iTour for Apple Watch as well, and is anticipating doing something fun with the possibilities that virtual reality has brought to the table.<\/p>

The 2013 version vs the most current version from 2017<\/em><\/p>

You can now download the iTour apps for free! Previously there were two different versions of each app, a free and a premium, but Marc has decided to make things a little easier and just offer one app with all the features. If you already have one of the old versions of the free app the new version will work just like the premium, but will not get any new updates. This change affects iOS users in that you will have to download the newer version of the app. If you want to download the iTour apps you can get them here<\/a> for iPhone and here<\/a> for Android.<\/p>
