It’s quite the time to be alive for festival goers! There are countless numbers of events happening all year round all over the world. It can become overwhelming to pick and choose which shows to attend and which ones to save for next year. If you ask us which shows not to miss, Disc Jam Music Festival is at the top of our list.<\/p>

Disc Jam began in 2011 when creator, Tony Scavone, realized that there was an overlap between two of his passions, live music and disc golf. He found that both of these communities are made up of positive and supportive members who “welcome one another to become something special when joined together.”<\/em> It became a difficult endeavor to gather all of his friends together.<\/p>

“I was producing lots of shows and playing lots of disc golf at the time and found it hard to get my disc golf friends to come to see music and hard to get my show going friends out to play disc golf,<\/em>” says Scavone, “I heard ‘I have a show I’m hitting tomorrow out of town, sorry I can’t play disc golf with you’ and “Sorry, I’m playing disc gold at this new course tomorrow and can’t make the show.'” <\/em><\/p>

He took his frustration and with it found inspiration to bring his favorite things together for a unique new festival, and Disc Jam was born. Scavone was no stranger to the festival world, having many grassroots style events under his belt. He had been attending many east coast events since their infancy including Gathering of the Vibes, Wormtown Music Festival, and Camp Bisco. He also happens to be the talent buyer for Electric Haze, a live music venue located in Worcester, MA.<\/p>

“If I was going to put on an event that would sustain the competition, it needed to be something very unique and focus on the bands on the rise both locally and nationally.”<\/em><\/p>

One of those bands was Dopapod, who have been headlining Disc Jam since its very beginning. There is also Kung Fu who have played 5 out of 7 years and Twiddle who will be performing for their 4th consecutive time this year. Other notable performance include 3\/4 of the Disco Biscuits, Tom Hamilton of JRAD, Mike Greenfield of Lotus, Cappadonna from Wu Tang Clan, and 4 of the members of Thievery Corporation.<\/p>

This year proves to be just as amazing, if not even better, than the past. Along with Dopapod and Kung Fu the lineup includes Turkuaz, The Motet, Gubbilidis, Aqueous, Consider the Source, Pink Talking Fish, Lespecial, and much more! Which act is Tony excited for?<\/p>

“I’m looking forward to this year’s Break Science Live Band who feature 5 members of Lettuce performing Break Science songs with a full live band, getting chills just thinking about it!”<\/em><\/p>

In addition to a kickass lineup, there are also tons of fun activities. There will, of course, be a disc golf tournament held onsite on Saturday and Sunday. Anyone can enter as their are different categories for pros and amateurs. Winners will receive some awesome prizes including Gregg Barsby & Nikko Locastro packages, Zatchmo Lives Media Dopapod canvas print, New Balance $150 gift card, and Friction Gloves. Not to worry if disc golf isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other fun things to do. There will be a silent disco, mini golf, yoga, art installations, flow tribe hoopers, a huge bonfire, and many different workshops. You can also check out the marketplace full of craft and food vendors. <\/p>

Disc Jam takes place on June 8th-11th at Gardner’s Farm in Stephentown, NY. This venue is located 15 minutes north of I-90 with tons of parking in lots that are less than a 5 minute walk from the camp grounds. The grounds themselves are free of hills and covered by a beautiful grass lawn that is perfect for bare feet.<\/p>
